eFOILING
eFoiling is an amazing new watersport that combines a small surfboard, an electric motor, and a hydrofoil, allowing riders to fly freely above the water's surface independent of wind, waves, or boats.
As the rider gains speed with the electric motor, the hydrofoil wing beneath the board creates lift, elevating the board and rider over the water, creating a smooth, drag-free flying sensation.
eFoiling uses a handheld remote to control speed while the rider uses their balance to control direction, lean, and height above the water, providing a totally free-flying sensation independent of wind and waves.
Modern eFoils from SiFly and JetWave use super-efficient wings and motors, powered by highly-advanced and EU certified waterproof battery packs.
Experienced riders can expect to get 1.5 - 2.5 hours of riding time on a single charge (depending on wing choice, rider weight, and riding style) and can cover between 25 - 40 kilometers on that charge. Most eFoilers tend to ride comfortably around 18-25km/hr, but top speeds in excess of 40km/hr are easily achievable.
FAQ
Q: How long does the battery last?
A: Depending on wing choice, rider weight, and riding style, intermediate riders can expect 1.5 - 2.5 hours on a single charge. Recharging a battery takes roughly 2 - 3 hours.
Q: How far can you ride on a battery?
A: Depending on wing choice, rider weight, and riding style, intermediate riders can expect to cover 25 - 40km on a single charge.
Q: How hard is it to learn to eFoil?
A: eFoiling is fairly easy to learn, and most riders will be able to stand up and start foiling within 1 - 2 sessions. Those with experience with other board sports often have a slightly faster learning curve, but previous experience is NOT a requirement.
Q: Do you need a license or insurance to eFoil?
A: No, in Germany and most of the EU no license is required. Insurance MAY be required in some countries, but it NOT required in Germany as of 2025.
Q: Where are you allowed to eFoil?
A: In Germany, eFoils should be registered with the local waterway office (usually a one time fee of €29). In general, eFoils are allowed on most rivers in Germany and on many lakes (they tend to be a case-by-case basis). eFoils are also allowed in the coastal regions and oceans. Bavaria is an exception and has its own strict regulations, as do some EU countries. As of 2025, eFoils are widely used in lakes, rivers, and the ocean in Spain, Portugal, Greece, Croatia, Turkey, Italy, France, Netherlands, and most other EU nations.
